Okay, so I’ve been meaning to get more involved in the community, and I kept hearing about World Relief. I finally decided to check it out – specifically the Kent, WA location, since that’s closest to me.
First, I looked them up online. Figured I’d see what they were all about before I just showed up. It looked like they do a lot of work with refugees and immigrants, helping them get settled and stuff. Seemed pretty legit.

My First Visit
I drove over there one afternoon, just to get a feel for the place. It’s a bit tucked away, but I found it eventually. I didn’t go inside, mostly just scoped out the parking situation and saw where the entrance was. Baby steps, right?
Making Contact
Next, I went back to their website and found their contact info. I decided to send an email, just introducing myself and saying I was interested in volunteering. I figured that was a good way to start without being too pushy.
I got a reply a few days later! Someone named Sarah emailed me back. She was super friendly and suggested we set up a time to chat on the phone. We did that, and she explained all the different volunteer opportunities they have.
Getting Involved
After talking to Sarah, I decided to go through their volunteer orientation. It was a couple of hours long, but it was really informative. I learned a lot about the organization and the people they serve. I also met some other potential volunteers, which was cool.
- They talked about the different programs, like helping people find jobs, learn English, and get their kids enrolled in school.
- They also emphasized the importance of being respectful and understanding of different cultures.
- I Filled so many forms.
What I’m Doing Now
Right now, I’m helping out with their English conversation classes. It’s basically just chatting with people who are learning English, helping them practice their speaking skills. It’s been really rewarding so far! I’m meeting some amazing people and learning a lot about their experiences.
It’s still early days, but I’m really glad I took the plunge and got involved with World Relief Kent. It feels good to be doing something meaningful, and I’m excited to see where it goes from here.I also keep volunteering to serve meals at their dinner time.
I encouraged my friends to participate, and I hope it will be helpful for people.
