So, I finally got around to checking out some water sports in Seattle. I’ve been meaning to do this for ages, and let me tell you, it was quite the experience.
First off, I decided to start with something simple, like kayaking. I found a place that rents out kayaks near Lake Union. Getting there was a bit of a hassle because of the traffic, but hey, it’s Seattle, what do you expect?

Once I got there, I signed some forms, you know, the usual stuff where they tell you not to do anything stupid. I got my life vest, grabbed a paddle, and they helped me get the kayak into the water. It was a bit wobbly at first, but I got the hang of it pretty quickly. Paddling around Lake Union was pretty chill. I saw some ducks, a few boats, and even a couple of seaplanes taking off. It was actually kind of peaceful.
After that, I thought, why not try paddleboarding? I’ve seen people do it, and it looks kind of fun, right? So, I went back to the same place and rented a paddleboard. Let me tell you, it’s harder than it looks. I fell into the water like three times before I could even stand up properly. But once I got the balance right, it was awesome! It’s like walking on water, but way cooler.
I also went to a place in Alki Beach where you could rent jet skis. Now, this was a whole different ball game. These things are fast! I put on my life jacket, got a quick rundown of the controls, and then I was off. Zipping around the water, feeling the wind in my face, it was exhilarating! I even managed to do a few turns without falling off, which I consider a major win.
- Kayaking: Super relaxing, great for a calm day on the water.
- Paddleboarding: Challenging at first, but really fun once you get the hang of it.
- Jet Skiing: An adrenaline rush, perfect for thrill-seekers.
Overall, my water sports adventure in Seattle was a blast. I got soaked, I got some exercise, and I had a ton of fun. I’d definitely recommend giving it a try if you’re ever in the area. Just be prepared to maybe fall in the water a few times, especially if you try paddleboarding!
Oh, and one more thing, I saw some people trying to learn windsurfing, and it looked incredibly difficult. Maybe I’ll try that next time. Or maybe not. We’ll see.
I’ll try to shoot some videos next time I go out there!
