So, I heard about this Wake Tech Open House thing and thought, why not check it out? I mean, I’ve been thinking about switching careers, and everyone’s been telling me Wake Tech is the place to go for that.
First thing I did was to look up the schedule. They had all these different sessions lined up, everything from healthcare to IT to even skilled trades like welding. Pretty cool variety, if you ask me.

Getting there was a bit of a mess. I went to the Northern Wake Campus first. The campus was packed. I guess a lot of other folks had the same idea as me. I saw people from all walks of life. It felt good to be part of this. I parked my car and walked to the registration desk.
After I got myself registered and got a map, I decided to hit up the sessions that piqued my interest the most. I started with the IT program overview. The instructor was showing us the computer lab, talking about all the software and stuff they use. It looked complicated, but the way he explained everything made it sound doable.
- Visited the IT program overview.
- Checked out the skilled trades demonstrations.
- Sat in on a financial aid workshop.
Next, I moved on to the skilled trades area. They had people actually doing welding and working on car engines right there! It was loud but super cool to watch. I even got to chat with some of the students. They were all pretty enthusiastic, talking about how much they liked the hands-on learning.
The Financial Aid Talk
Now, one thing I was really concerned about was the money part. How was I going to pay for all this? So, I made sure to attend the financial aid workshop. The lady presenting was really helpful. She went through all the different options, like grants, loans, and scholarships. She even gave us tips on how to fill out the FAFSA.
By the end of the day, I was pretty much sold. I grabbed some brochures, talked to a few more people, and then headed home. I’ve got a lot to think about, but I’m feeling pretty good about this whole Wake Tech thing. It seems like a solid place to get the skills you need to make a real change in your life. I decided to apply for the next semester.
So yeah, that was my day at the Wake Tech Open House. It was a bit tiring, but definitely worth it. If you’re thinking about going back to school or changing careers, I’d say it’s worth checking out. You might just be surprised at what you find. I will keep you updated about my application result!
