Okay, so, I’ve been getting really into collecting VHS tapes lately. You know, those old-school video cassettes that were popular before DVDs? Yeah, those things. It all started when I found a box of old family videos in the attic. Watching them brought back so many memories, and it got me thinking about all the other movies and shows that are still only available on VHS. So, I decided to start collecting them.
First, I dusted off my old VCR and hooked it up to my TV. I gotta say, there’s something really satisfying about the clunk sound the tape makes when you pop it in. Then I did a little research to see what I should look for.

- Building the Collection: Started hitting up thrift stores and garage sales. You wouldn’t believe the treasures you can find! I’ve managed to snag some real classics, and it’s always a thrill to find a movie I’ve been searching for.
- Discovering Value: Some tapes are actually worth some serious money, especially if they’re rare or in good condition. It’s like a treasure hunt! I learned that some people who grew up watching these movies are now collectors and some VHS tapes are valuable. I’m still learning about the value of different tapes, but it’s definitely an interesting part of the hobby.
- Maintaining the Collection: I’ve been trying to figure out the best way to store my tapes. I’ve heard that you should keep them in a cool, dry place and rewind them after each viewing. Also, keeping them away from magnets is a big deal.
It’s been a fun journey so far. I love the nostalgia of it all, and it’s been cool to learn about the history of home video. Some say podcasting is an audio medium, I enjoy collecting VHS as a hobby. Plus, it’s a great conversation starter. Who knew that these old tapes could be so interesting?
What I’ve Learned
This whole experience has taught me a lot. Not just about VHS tapes, but also about the importance of preserving our cultural history. These tapes are like little time capsules, and they’re a reminder of a time before streaming and on-demand video. It is a good way to remember those good old days.
I’m definitely going to keep collecting. It’s become a real passion of mine. And hey, if any of you out there are also into VHS tapes, hit me up! I’d love to chat and maybe even do some trading. In fact, if you have any advice, like where to buy, trade, sell or how to maintain a collection, please share with me! I hope you enjoy my sharing.
Alright, that’s it for now. Happy collecting!
