Okay, so, “The Hallway Entertainment” project. It all started when I got super bored with my plain, long hallway. It was just… blah. White walls, one boring picture, and that’s it. I figured, why not make it fun?
First, I brainstormed. Like, a lot. I scribbled down ideas on napkins, sticky notes, even my hand at one point. I thought about a gallery wall, but that felt too… normal. Then, I considered a mural, but I’m no artist. So, I kept thinking.

Then it hit me – interactive stuff! Something that people could actually do as they walked down the hall. This is where the real fun began.
The Chalkboard Wall
My first move was to paint one entire wall with chalkboard paint. It took, like, three coats to get it really solid and black. I bought a bunch of colorful chalk, the good, thick kind, not the dusty stuff. And I just… let people go wild. Friends, family, even the delivery guy once left a little doodle. It’s always changing, always surprising. Sometimes it’s inspiring quotes, sometimes it’s terrible drawings, sometimes it’s just random nonsense. But it’s alive.
The Magnetic Poetry Zone
Next, I wanted something a bit more… structured. I found these magnetic poetry kits online, the kind with hundreds of little word magnets. I got a big, metal sheet (the kind you might use for a backsplash in a kitchen) and stuck it on the wall next to the chalkboard. Pro tip: Make sure it’s really, really stuck. I learned that the hard way after a minor word-magnet avalanche.
Now, people can create poems, leave messages, or just rearrange words into silly sentences. It’s amazing what people come up with when they’re just passing through.
The “Guess Who?” Board
This was a bit more involved. I took a bunch of photos of friends and family, close-ups of their eyes, noses, and mouths. I printed them out, cut them up, and stuck them on small, individual wooden blocks. Then, I attached Velcro to the backs of the blocks and a long strip of Velcro to the wall. People can now mix and match the facial features to create hilarious combinations, and try to guess who’s who. It’s surprisingly addictive.
The Mini-Arcade
This was the final touch, and probably the most ambitious. I had an old tablet I wasn’t using, so I loaded it up with some classic arcade games (think Pac-Man, Space Invaders, that kind of thing). I found a simple, wall-mounted tablet holder and boom! Instant mini-arcade. I even put a little sign above it that says, “High Score Gets Bragging Rights.” Gets pretty competitive sometimes!
The whole project took a few weekends and a bit of trial and error (remember the magnet avalanche?). But it was totally worth it. My hallway is now the most popular spot in the house. It’s not just a way to get from one room to another; it’s a destination. It’s silly, it’s interactive, and it’s always changing. It is definitely “The Hallway Entertainment”.
