Okay, here’s my story about creating an ecosystem map for media and entertainment companies.
So, I started thinking about this whole ecosystem map thing for media and entertainment folks. You know, the world is always changing and I thought to myself – things don’t stay still, not for a second. And as we head into 2024, I need to figure this out. I mean, who are the big players? Who’s doing what? It’s a mess out there!

First, I grabbed a big piece of paper and a bunch of colorful markers. Yeah, I’m old school like that. I figured I’d start by jotting down all the big names I could think of. You know, the Disneys, the Netflixes, the Warner Bros. of the world. And all the people in it. Then I started drawing circles and lines, trying to connect the dots. This company owns that one, this one partners with that one, and so on. What a mess!
But it wasn’t enough to just know the companies. I needed to know who’s who in those companies. So, I started digging. I looked up CEOs, creative directors, the folks who actually make things happen. LinkedIn became my best friend, let me tell you. I added all those names to my map, trying to see who’s connected to whom.

I spent hours, days even, just researching. I read articles, watched interviews, and even stalked a few people on social media. Don’t judge me, I needed to know who’s who in this zoo!

Then, I started categorizing people. These are the tech people, these are the creative types, these are the money people. It’s like a big puzzle, and I was trying to put all the pieces together. I feel like I need to understand it better, and figure out why it’s necessary, even.
After a while, my map started to look like something. I mean, it was still a mess, but it was an organized mess. I could see the relationships, the power dynamics, the whole shebang. And let me tell you, it was eye-opening. There are always some surprises in it.
I realized that this ecosystem map thing is not just a fun little project. It’s actually super useful. It helps you understand the industry, see where the opportunities are, and maybe even predict where things are going. It’s like having a crystal ball, but for the media and entertainment world.
So, yeah, that’s my story. I created this ecosystem map, and it was a wild ride. But I learned a ton, and now I have this awesome tool that I can use to navigate this crazy industry. And I think everyone who’s serious about media and entertainment should have one of these. And that’s all of it.
