Okay, so today I wanted to figure out a better way to keep up with sports. I’m always missing games, and honestly, scrolling through endless websites is a pain. So, I decided to build something myself. I’m calling it my personal “Sports on TV” tracker.

First, I grabbed a piece of paper and a pen – yeah, I’m old school like that sometimes. I jotted down all the sports I actually care about: mostly football, basketball, and a little bit of baseball when the season’s right.

Then, I fired up my computer and opened a new spreadsheet. Google Sheets, because it’s free and easy. I made a few columns: “Date,” “Time,” “Sport,” “Teams Playing,” and “Channel.” Simple enough, right?

Next, the slightly tedious part. I started digging through the TV listings online. It was mostly a lot of copying and pasting, finding the games I wanted and plunking the info into my spreadsheet. It took a while, and honestly, my eyes started to glaze over after about an hour.

  • Find a good website, a website I know.
  • Copy all the info for the day.
  • Paste and format it to my spreadsheet.

After I filled in a few weeks’ worth of games, I added some color-coding. You know, green for football, blue for basketball – just to make it easier to scan. Nothing fancy, but it helps!

The Result

Now, instead of getting lost in a maze of websites, I have my own personalized sports schedule. I can open it up anytime, see what’s on, and plan my day (or at least my TV watching) accordingly.

It’s not perfect, and I’ll probably tweak it as I go. Maybe I’ll add a column for “Watch Live/Record” or something. But for now, it’s a huge improvement over what I was doing before. And honestly, it felt pretty good to build something myself, even if it’s just a simple spreadsheet. So maybe I should improve it so that I don’t have to copy and paste it manually!
