Okay, so I’ve been wanting to put together this collection of “Sports Illustrated” track and field covers for a while now, and today I finally dove in.
First off, I started by hitting up the internet. Just a simple search, you know? I typed in “Sports Illustrated track and field covers” to see what would pop up. I found a bunch of websites, including the official “Sports Illustrated” site and some image databases like Getty Images.

Then, I started browsing through the covers. Man, there are a lot! It was like taking a walk through sports history. I saw legendary athletes, iconic moments, and even some covers that sparked some memories I’d completely forgotten. I remember seeing some of these when I was a kid. It’s really cool.
I decided to focus on the ones that really stood out to me. You know, the ones with powerful images or those that featured athletes I really admired. For example, I definitely grabbed the ones with Jeremy Wariner. I watched his races when I was little.
- I made a list of the covers I liked.
- Then I went through and downloaded the high-quality images of those covers. I want to make sure they look good.
- I organized them by year and athlete. Just to keep things neat and tidy.
After that, I spent some time looking at each cover more closely. I read the headlines and the little blurbs on the covers. Some of them were really interesting, giving you a snapshot of what was going on in the world of track and field at that time. One cover was talking about the upcoming Los Angeles Games, which will happen soon.
The final step
Finally, I put them all together in a digital album. It’s not perfect, but it’s a start. I’m pretty happy with how it turned out. It’s like my own little personal museum of track and field history. I think I’ll keep adding to it as I find more cool covers. Maybe I’ll print them out someday and hang them up, who knows? It’s a work in progress, but it was a fun way to spend the day, geeking out over these awesome covers. Now I have an album and can check it whenever I want.
