Alright, let’s talk about this Seattle sports stuff, you know? I ain’t no expert, but I watch the games when I can, and I hear things from the grandkids. They’re always yellin’ about somethin’ or other.
First off, there’s them Seahawks, the football fellas. Seems like everyone’s always fussin’ over them. Win or lose, they get folks riled up. I see ‘em on the TV, runnin’ around, throwin’ that ball. Sometimes they’re good, sometimes they ain’t. That’s just how it goes, I reckon. Win some, lose some, just like plantin’ taters. You get a good crop some years, other years, not so much.
They talk about player stats, whatever that means. Numbers and such. I just watch to see if they score more than the other team. Seems simple enough to me. Injuries, too, that’s a big thing. If a fella gets hurt, well, he can’t play, can he? Then they gotta bring in some other fella, and who knows if he’ll be any good. It’s like havin’ a tractor break down in the middle of plantin’ season. Gotta fix it quick or you’re in trouble.
- They got schedules, too. When they playin’, where they playin’. Lots of travelin’, I guess. Just like when my boy went off to the army, always movin’ around.
- And playoffs? That’s when the best teams play each other, right? To see who’s the best of the best. Like the biggest pumpkin at the county fair. Everyone wants to win that blue ribbon.
Then there’s them trades and rosters. They switchin’ players around, like tradin’ chickens at the market. Sometimes you get a good deal, sometimes you get a skinny old hen that don’t lay no eggs. And drafts? That’s when they pick new players, I think. Like pickin’ out the best calves to raise. You want the strong ones, the ones that’ll grow up big and healthy.
Now, them Mariners, they play baseball. That’s the one with the bat and the little white ball. They hit it, they run around. It’s kinda like watchin’ the grandkids play in the yard, except these fellas are gettin’ paid big bucks to do it. They got scores and stats too, same as the football fellas. Always keepin’ track of who hit what and who ran where. It’s all a bit much for me sometimes, but I enjoy watchin’ ‘em swing that bat.
And don’t forget the Kraken, the hockey team. They’re the ones on the ice, skatin’ around with them sticks. That’s a fast game, too fast for my old eyes sometimes. They push that little black puck around, tryin’ to get it in the net. It’s kinda like herding sheep, only a whole lot colder and with more fightin’.
Then there’s them Sounders, the soccer players. They kick the ball with their feet, runnin’ up and down the field. That’s a game folks play all over the world, I hear. Seems like everyone knows how to kick a ball, even little kids. They got scores and such, just like the other teams. They gotta run a lot in that game, I tell you what.
And the Storm and the Reign, they’re the women’s teams, basketball and soccer, I think. Good for them, showin’ them fellas how it’s done. My granddaughter, she plays basketball in school. She’s a tough one, that girl. Reminds me of myself when I was younger.
So, that’s the Seattle sports scene, as far as I can tell. Lots of teams, lots of games, lots of fussin’. But it’s somethin’ to watch, somethin’ to talk about. Keeps things interestin’, I suppose. And sometimes, when your team wins, it feels pretty darn good. Like gettin’ a good rain after a long dry spell.
I saw somethin’ about score predictions for the Seahawks game against the Cardinals. Folks always tryin’ to guess who’s gonna win. It’s like predictin’ the weather. Sometimes you’re right, sometimes you’re wrong. But it’s fun to guess, ain’t it?
And there was somethin’ about a fella named Leonard Williams, runnin’ down the sideline. Big fella, they said. Six foot five. That’s taller than my barn door! These athletes, they’re somethin’ else.
Anyways, that’s enough sports talk for one day. I gotta go feed the chickens and tend to the garden. But if you wanna know what’s happenin’ with them Seattle teams, just turn on the TV or listen to the radio. They’re always talkin’ about ‘em.
