So, I got this idea stuck in my head a while back – a ‘high tech prayer breakfast’. Sounds a bit odd, right? Mixing the old praying stuff with new gadgets. But I figured, why not give it a shot?
Honestly, part of it was just practical. Got folks who wanted to join but live far away, or maybe couldn’t get out of the house easily. Seemed like tech could bridge that gap, you know? Plus, I was curious if it would feel weird or actually… work.

Getting Things Rolling
First thing, had to actually organize it. Didn’t want anything too fancy. Just sent out some digital invites using one of those online thingamajigs. Way easier than mailing stuff.
- I set up a video call – just used a basic free service. Sent the link out with the invite.
- Then, I thought about the actual ‘prayer’ part. Put together some readings and song words. Instead of printing tons of paper, I just put them on a shared page online. Told everyone they could pull it up on their phones or tablets.
- Tested the video call setup the day before. Good thing I did, the microphone wasn’t working right at first! Had to fiddle with the settings. Always something, eh?
The Breakfast Itself
So the day comes. Had a few people show up at my place, coffee brewing, bagels out. Standard stuff. Then we fired up the laptop and projected the video call onto a wall. Suddenly, faces popped up – folks joining from different cities!
It was… interesting. We had people physically there, chatting, and people on the screen waving. When we did the readings, some used their phones, others looked at the projection. Someone online even shared a prayer request through the chat.
One funny bit: my internet decided to wobble for a minute right in the middle of a song. Everyone froze on screen like statues. We all had a good laugh when it came back.
Did it work? Yeah, I think it kinda did. It wasn’t perfectly smooth, with the internet hiccup and all. But it felt… connected. Different, sure, but still meaningful. Showed me that tech doesn’t have to get in the way. It can actually bring people together if you use it thoughtfully.
Thinking back, maybe I pushed for this ’cause I’d been feeling a bit adrift myself. Changed jobs last year, moved to a new area just before that whole lockdown mess started. Felt kinda cut off. Trying to connect people, even through screens and gadgets, maybe it was my way of trying to connect too. Weird how things work out sometimes.
