I went to Outback Steakhouse the other day. It’s a place that’s known for its, shall we say, indulgent food. You know, deep-fried, greasy, and loaded with salt. But I was determined to find something healthier to eat there.
First, I did some digging online to see what people were saying. I found out that they use real butter for grilling steaks. There was this rumor about them cooking steaks in beef tallow, but a chef clarified they just use butter, so that’s good to know. Some people were reacting to the food, claiming Outback uses MSG in their rubs and dressings. I’m not sure about that, but it’s something to keep in mind.

What I Ordered
- Grilled Shrimp with BBQ Sauce: I figured anything grilled is a better choice than fried. The wood-fire grilled shrimp sounded good, and the BBQ sauce added a nice flavor.
- Seared Peppered Ahi: I noticed this on the menu, and apparently, it’s one of their regional items. I like Ahi, and seared sounded like a healthy way to prepare it.
- Victoria’s Filet Mignon: I saw some people online recommending this as a healthier option. It’s a steak, but it’s a leaner cut, and you can control the portion size.
I tried to keep in mind some general tips like opting for grilled items over fried ones. It’s all about making small choices to create a more balanced meal. Also, mixing beef, seafood, chicken, and shellfish to create a nutritious meal is also important, but I am not sure if it is the right way.
Overall, I think I did okay with my choices at Outback. It wasn’t perfect, but I managed to find some options that were relatively healthy and still enjoyable. I will continue to explore healthier options on the menus of various restaurants.
