Today, I feel like talking about something a bit different – eating healthy at Outback Steakhouse. Yeah, I know, it sounds like a challenge, right? Outback is known for those Bloomin’ Onions and big, juicy steaks. But I’ve been trying to make better choices lately, so I took this as a personal mission.

First off, I started looking at their menu online before even going to the restaurant. That helped me plan a bit. I saw they have some “Seared Peppered Ahi” listed, which sounded interesting, but then I read somewhere that some menu items are regional. So I wasn’t sure if my local Outback would have it.

Outback Healthy Options: What to Choose for Healthier Meals
  • Grilled stuff is your friend. I figured anything grilled is probably a better choice than fried.
  • Victoria’s Filet Mignon. I saw a few people online mention this as a leaner option.
  • Grilled Shrimp on the Barbie. Sounds fun, and shrimp is usually a good choice, right?

I also read that the restaurant uses real butter to grill your steaks. I am not sure if that’s healthy, so I would rather choose something different.

My Outback Experience

So, I went to Outback. I ended up ordering the Victoria’s Filet Mignon, cooked medium. I skipped the usual loaded baked potato and went for a side of grilled asparagus instead. They also have this wood-fire grilled shrimp, topped with BBQ sauce. That sounded pretty good. I am also thinking about the Outback Center-Cut Sirloin, which they called top sirloin. It’s a lean cut of steak that still manages to be juicy and tender.

Honestly, it was pretty good! The steak was tender, and the asparagus was a nice, healthy touch. I didn’t feel like I was missing out by skipping the heavier sides. I also made sure to drink plenty of water instead of sugary drinks.

I realized that making healthier choices at places like Outback isn’t about completely depriving yourself. It’s more about being mindful of what you’re ordering and making some simple swaps. I also heard that a full rack of ribs at Outback has 1,430 calories. I think I made a good decision by choosing the filet mignon.

I’m no expert, but this little experiment at Outback showed me that even at a steakhouse, you can find some decent, healthy options. It’s all about making informed choices and not being afraid to ask for what you need. Next time you’re at Outback, maybe give the grilled stuff a try and see how it goes!
