This Ameritech dial last caller thing, it’s a head-scratcher, I tell ya. But I’m gonna try my best to figure this out. These new-fangled gadgets, they got so many buttons and doohickeys.
So, this Ameritech thing, seems like it’s about callin’ back the last person who called ya, or maybe the last person you called. Back in my day, we just yelled out the window if we needed somethin’. But I guess times are changin’.

I heard some folks talkin’ ’bout a star somethin’ code. 69, I think it was. They say you punch that in, and it’ll call back the last number. Sounds like magic to me! If you got one of them old-timey rotary phones, I guess you gotta dial 1169. What a rigamarole!
- Dial 69 on new phones
- Dial 1169 on them old, roundy phones
Now, I saw this other thing, this Ameritech AM 1930. Fancy name for a phone, ain’t it? They say it remembers the last five numbers you called. Five! Who can keep track of all that? If the little receiver thingy is off, you can use it to dial back. I suppose that’s handy if you got a bad memory like old man Jebediah.
And then there’s somethin’ about dialin’ 7 digits. Seven! Why can’t they just keep it simple? They say if you’re callin’ someone close by, in your own… area code, they call it, you just dial seven numbers. Then you gotta press “PHONE” or somethin’. It’s all too much for this old brain, I swear.
Most folks, they just use the “Call Log” or “Recent Calls” thing on their phones. It’s like a list of everyone who’s been callin’ ya, and everyone you called. Like a little phone book right there in your phone. To call someone back, you just… well, I don’t rightly know how you do it, but they say it’s easy. They also use the tags, like Redial Phone Number or Redial On Phone, whatever that means.
But here’s a secret I heard. They say there’s a super easy way to call back the last number. You just press the Call button, just like that! No fancy codes or nothin’. Just press it and boom, you’re callin’ back. Sounds too good to be true, don’t it?
If that don’t work, and your call still won’t go through, they say you gotta “troubleshoot.” Sounds like a fancy word for just messin’ with it until it works. But before you start doin’ all that, just try pressin’ that dial button again. Maybe it just needs a little nudge.
Now, for them old landline phones, the ones that sit on a table and have a cord, you just pick it up and press the “Redial” button. That’ll call back the last number you dialed. Or, there is another way, you can dial 66, seems it can do the same trick.

If you’re trying to find out who called you last, they say dial 1471. But if you want to know who you dialed last time, you may need ask the service provider. Who are they? I don’t know. Maybe they are the telephone men.
I also heard somethin’ ’bout a Ultra RangeMax cordless phone. It’s a phone without a cord, imagine that! It keeps track of the last number you dialed, too. It has a special “redial memory”. Must be where it keeps the number. There is also a button called PHONE BATT. I don’t know what is that for.
Anyways, this whole Ameritech dial last caller business is a lot to take in. But I hope I helped you make some sense of it. Just remember, sometimes the simplest way is the best way. Just press that call button, and see what happens! Maybe you don’t need any of these fancy codes after all. Or if you really need those codes, try 69, or 1169 for old phones, or 66 for landline. There are so many ways, even I can not remember all of them. You kids figure it out yourself. I am too old for this.
