So, I was trying to figure out my ski pass situation for the season. Heard some chatter about Sports Basement maybe having some kind of deal going on. You know how it is, always trying to save a buck instead of paying those crazy resort prices.
Decided to just head over to the store. Walked in, place is packed with gear as usual. Skis, bikes, tents, the whole nine yards. I made a beeline for the back where they keep all the ski and snowboard stuff. Started looking around for any signs or posters about passes.

Didn’t spot anything right off the bat. Just loads of skis and boots lined up. Grabbed one of the staff members wandering by, asked him point-blank, “You guys selling ski passes or offering deals this year?”
He told me yeah, they do have options, but it’s usually tied into their season rental packages. He mentioned you pretty much have to rent your gear from them for the whole winter to get access to the pass deals they offer. Sometimes they have specific resort partnerships, he said.
This is basically what I had to do:
- First, check out their season rental options. They had a few different packages, standard stuff mostly.
- I had to commit to renting skis and boots from them for the entire season.
- Signed up for the rental, which involved filling out their forms, getting sized up, the usual hassle.
- Paid for the season rental fee right there.
- Only after signing up and paying for the rental did they give me the info on the “pass”. It wasn’t like a plastic card pass I could just pocket. It was more like specific instructions or vouchers for getting discounted lift tickets at certain mountains they partnered with.
So yeah, it wasn’t just walking in and buying a cheap pass. You gotta get involved with their rental program. It’s a bundle deal, really. Rent gear, get some kind of ski discount or access.
Left the store with my rental agreement and the instructions for the lift ticket discounts. Felt alright about it, probably saved a bit overall compared to renting and buying passes separately at the resort. Just gotta make sure I actually use the rental gear and follow the steps for the discounts when I hit the slopes. A bit more effort than just buying a pass directly, but whatever works.
