Okay, so I decided to check out the Las Vegas Sports Card Show 2024. I’d heard about this thing, and since I’m getting back into collecting, I figured, why not?
First, I looked up the dates and location online. Turns out it was held at the Rio Hotel & Casino on October 19-20. I marked it down on my calendar and booked a room at the Rio to make things easy. After all, it seemed like a popular event, and I didn’t want to miss out on a good spot.
Preparation for the Trip
Before the trip, I spent some time figuring out which cards I was interested in. I made a list of specific cards and sets that I was hoping to find or at least get a good deal on. It’s easy to get overwhelmed at these things, so I wanted to have a game plan. I also set a budget for myself – very important, otherwise you can go nuts with all the cool stuff they have there.
At the Show
I arrived at the Rio and headed straight to the convention hall. Man, was it huge! There were rows and rows of tables, about 300 they said, with all sorts of trading cards. Baseball, football, basketball – you name it, they had it. I even saw some Pokémon and Marvel stuff, which was pretty cool, even though I’m mostly into sports cards.
- I started walking around, checking out different vendors. Some tables were packed with people, others were more chill.
- I tried to chat with some of the dealers, asking about prices and if they had anything on my list. Some were super helpful, others were a bit busy, but that’s expected.
- I managed to find a few cards I was looking for. One dealer had a vintage baseball card I’d been eyeing for a while. We haggled a bit on the price, and I ended up getting it for a decent deal. Pretty stoked about that!
Meeting Other Collectors
One of the best parts was meeting other collectors. I struck up conversations with a few folks who were also browsing around. We talked about our favorite teams, players, and what we were looking for. I even traded a couple of cards with a guy who had some duplicates I needed, and vice versa. That was fun – felt like being a kid again.
Wrapping Up
After a few hours, my feet were starting to hurt, and my wallet was definitely lighter. But it was worth it. I picked up some great cards, met some cool people, and just soaked in the whole atmosphere. It’s definitely something I’d recommend to anyone who’s into sports cards or just wants to see what it’s all about.
I headed back to my room, spread out my new cards on the bed, and just admired them for a while. Yeah, it was a good day. I’m already thinking about next year’s show!
