Okay, so, I’ve been thinking about this whole “Is the NFL entertainment?” thing for a while now. It’s a question that gets thrown around a lot, and I wanted to dig into it myself. I mean, we all watch it, right? But is it really just entertainment, like a movie or a TV show?
First, I started by watching a bunch of games. Not just the primetime ones, either. I watched some of those midday Sunday games that, let’s be honest, can be a bit of a snooze-fest sometimes. You know the ones I’m talking about. And then I watched some other, more exciting games that went right down to the wire.

Then, I started looking at it from different angles. Like, I thought about the players. These guys are seriously athletic. They train like crazy, they put their bodies on the line every week, and some of them are even working with some injuries that will follow them for years or even life. That’s not just entertainment, that’s dedication and, well, it’s a serious job, right?
And I also looked at the rules. The NFL rulebook is thicker than a dictionary! There’s strategy, there are plays, there’s a whole lot of thinking going on. It’s not just a bunch of guys running into each other. There is a lot that goes into it. I even tried to read the rulebook, ha, that was something.
- I spent hours on fan forums, just reading what people were saying about different games.
- I watched interviews with players and coaches, trying to get their perspective.
- I even talked to some friends who are really into fantasy football to see how they see the NFL.
After all this, here’s what I’ve come up with. I think the NFL is definitely entertainment. We watch it to be entertained, to have fun, to yell at the TV when our team does something stupid and cheer when our team does something great, hopefully more of the latter. But it’s also more than that.
It’s a sport, with all the athleticism, strategy, and competition that comes with it. It’s a business, a huge one, with billions of dollars at stake. And it’s a cultural phenomenon, something that brings people together, even if it’s just to argue about a bad call. So, is the NFL entertainment? Yeah, it is. But it’s also a whole lot more.
