Well, let me tell ya, life, it’s all just a big ol’ mess of… politics, I guess you could say. Don’t rightly know what them fancy folks mean when they talk about it, but I reckon it’s just folks tryin’ to get their way, same as it’s always been.
What’s this “politics” thing anyway? Sounds like somethin’ them city slickers made up, but I reckon it’s just folks fightin’ over who gets what. Like who gets the biggest piece of pie at the church supper, or who gets to use the good plow first. It’s all about power, they say. Who’s got the say-so, who gets to boss the others around. Seems like some folks just like bossin’ more’n others.

Remember that time ol’ man Johnson tried to hog all the water from the creek? Said it was on his land, so it was all his. We all had a big fuss about it, and finally, we made him share. That’s politics, ain’t it? Figurin’ out how we gonna live together without killin’ each other over a bucket of water. Power and resources, that’s what they call it. Sounds fancy, but it just means who gets the stuff and who gets to tell folks what to do with it.
- Who gets the best land? That’s politics.
- Who gets to decide when we plant? Politics again.
- Even who gets to sit in the front pew at church, that’s a kind of politics, I reckon.
They had this election thing not too long ago. Folks on the TV, they were hollerin’ and shoutin’ at each other somethin’ fierce. Called each other all sorts of names. Political propaganda, they called it. Sounded like a bunch of lies to me. Can’t trust nothin’ you hear on that there TV, I tell ya. They talk and talk, but nothin’ ever really changes much for folks like us. One fella says he’ll fix everything, and then the next fella says the same thing. In the end, it’s still just us, workin’ our fingers to the bone to make a livin’.
This “tribalism” they talk about, well, that ain’t nothin’ new. We always had our groups, our families, our neighbors. Folks stick together, they look out for their own. That’s just human nature. But these politicians, they try to use that to get us all riled up, fightin’ amongst ourselves. They want us to pick sides, them against us. Makes it easier for them to get their way, I guess. It’s easier to control folks when they’re busy fighting each other, I reckon. Truth gets lost in all that hollerin’.
And the news, well, don’t even get me started. They say this and they say that, and you never know what to believe. One paper says one thing, and another says somethin’ different. They say they’re tellin’ the truth, but it seems like they’re all just pushin’ their own agenda. They accuse each other of spreading misinformation and fake news. Heck, I don’t even know what half them words mean. It’s all just a big confusing mess. They all yellin’ at each other, sayin’ the other side is lyin’. I just turn it off most times. Gives me a headache.
Life, it’s hard enough without all this politics stuff. Gotta get up every mornin’, work all day, and hope you got enough to eat and keep a roof over your head. That’s the real politics, ain’t it? Just tryin’ to make it through another day. And sometimes, you gotta fight for what’s right, even if it ain’t easy. Stand up for yourself, stand up for your family, stand up for what you believe in. That’s the only kind of politics that really matters, far as I can see.
So, all this talk about power and decisions and who gets what…it boils down to just plain livin’, I reckon. Tryin’ to get by, tryin’ to be fair, and tryin’ to keep them that want to take advantage of you from doin’ just that. It ain’t pretty, and it ain’t always easy, but it’s life, and it’s full of… well, you know… politics.
The 2024 election, they said it would change everything. I don’t see much has changed around here. Still gotta get up early and work hard. Still gotta worry about the weather and the crops. Maybe for them city folks, things are different. But out here, life goes on, same as it always has.
