Alright, buckle up folks, because I’m about to dive into this American Heartland Deluxe Entertainment Console light project I tackled last weekend. It was a bit of a ride, but hey, that’s what makes it fun, right?
So, it all started when I picked up this old entertainment console at a flea market. Solid wood, classic look, but the inside was DARK. Like, you couldn’t see anything without a flashlight dark. I figured, “Why not add some light? Make it fancy!”

First things first, I hit up the hardware store. Grabbed myself a string of those LED strip lights – the kind with the sticky back. Figured those would be easy to install. Also snagged a small rocker switch, some wire, and a power adapter. Safety first, people! Always unplug before you mess with stuff!
Next up: Planning. I laid out the LED strip inside the console to see how much I needed. I decided to run it along the top edge, facing down to illuminate the shelves. Used a marker to mark where I’d need to cut the strip. Gotta be precise, or you end up with a mess.
Then came the cutting. Used a pair of scissors, making sure to cut on the designated lines. After that, I peeled off the backing and carefully stuck the LED strip in place. Honestly, this was the trickiest part. The sticky stuff is super sticky, so you only get one shot to get it right.
Now for the wiring. This is where things got a little more… interesting. I drilled a small hole in the back of the console for the power cord and the switch. Then, I wired the switch to the power adapter and the LED strip. I followed a wiring diagram I found online – don’t try this without one, unless you’re a wizard with electricity. I’m not, so I followed the diagram to the letter.
Time for the moment of truth! Plugged in the power adapter, flipped the switch… and BAM! Light! It actually worked! The whole inside of the console was bathed in a soft, warm glow. It looked amazing!
Of course, it wasn’t perfect. The wires were a bit messy, so I used some zip ties to tidy them up. Also, the switch was a little wobbly, so I added some hot glue to hold it in place. Hey, sometimes you gotta improvise, right?
Overall, I’m super happy with how it turned out. It’s not professional-grade, but it’s functional and adds a really nice touch to the console. Plus, I learned a thing or two about wiring along the way. Not bad for a weekend project!

Lessons Learned:
- Measure twice, cut once – seriously, this is important.
- Wiring can be intimidating, but with a good diagram, it’s manageable.
- Zip ties and hot glue are your friends.
- Don’t be afraid to experiment and have fun!
So, that’s the story of my American Heartland Deluxe Entertainment Console light. Hope you enjoyed the tale, and maybe it’ll inspire you to tackle a project of your own. Go get ’em!
