But don’t get scared by the big words, it’s really just about making sure everybody’s pullin’ their weight. It all starts with the goals, right? You gotta know what you want to achieve before you can see if folks are doin’ their part. If you don’t know where you’re goin’, how can you expect to get there?

First off, you gotta set some clear goals. What’s it that you want your business to do? If ya want folks to be workin’ towards the same thing, them goals gotta be right out there for everyone to see. Once you got them, you can link ‘em to how people are performin’. Now, I know it sounds like a lot of work, but really, it’s just making sure everyone knows what they’re supposed to be doin’ and why it matters. Folks like to know their work ain’t just for nothin’. Whatever it is, you gotta find the root of the problem so you can fix it properly. Can’t just slap a band-aid on it and call it good.

Might mean new processes, new training, or even just a little encouragement. When people know what they’re supposed to do and they got the right tools, they’re gonna do better. Simple as that.

And once you’ve put your solutions in place, you gotta check if they’re workin’. You can’t just leave it at that and hope for the best. You need to see if folks are doin’ better, if they’re workin’ smarter, and if the business is movin’ closer to them goals you set in the first place. It’s all about lookin’ at how folks are doin’, and if they’re not doin’ so good, then it’s back to the drawing board.

If you know how to use ‘em, you can get a better sense of what’s happening in your business and make smarter choices about how to improve things. There’s no excuse not to use the data at your fingertips, especially when you’re tryin’ to improve human performance.

Now, there’s somethin’ else important to mention. Businesses are always lookin’ for good people, and with all the competition out there, it’s tough to keep ‘em. But if you focus on improving human performance, you’re gonna make folks feel like they’re really makin’ a difference. That’s how you keep good people around—by showin’ ‘em they matter and that their work is part of somethin’ bigger. People don’t wanna just work for a paycheck, they wanna know they’re helpin’ to make things better. If you can show ‘em that, they’ll stick around.
