Okay, so I’ve been trying to eat healthier lately, even when I’m lazy and just want to order takeout. It’s a struggle, you know? But I’m making progress. Today, I’m gonna share how I do it.
The first thing I started doing was actually looking at the menus online before I ordered. Most places have their menus posted, and it’s a lifesaver. I used to just order whatever sounded good in the moment, but that was a recipe for disaster. Now, I take a few minutes to browse before I get hungry. This is not always easy, my friends, but I manage.

My Takeout Game Plan
- Browse Menus: I spend a few minutes looking at the online menus. This helps me resist ordering on a whim.
- Find the Good Stuff: I scan for keywords like “grilled,” “steamed,” or “light.” That’s my clue that it might be a healthier option. I like chicken, so if a restaurant provides grilled chicken, I will choose it.
- Load Up on Veggies: I try to pick dishes that have a lot of vegetables. More veggies usually mean fewer of the bad stuff, right? You know what I’m sayin’?
- Lean Protein is Key: I go for lean protein like grilled chicken or fish. It fills me up without all the extra fat. I tried turkey sandwiches, which were not bad.
- Say No to Fried: This one’s tough, but I try to avoid anything fried. French fries are my weakness, but I’m getting better at saying no. Usually, I will pick baked chips.
So, I started with Italian. Let me tell you, avoiding the creamy pasta was tough. I ordered a salad with grilled chicken and a light vinaigrette. It wasn’t pizza, but it was surprisingly good. Then, I tried Chinese. I swapped out the fried rice for steamed rice and got a veggie stir-fry with chicken. Honestly, it was delicious. For Mexican, I got chicken fajitas, which are a great choice. I load up on the veggies and go easy on the cheese and sour cream.
I’m not gonna lie, it’s not always easy to make the healthy choice, you guys. Sometimes I really just want a big, juicy burger with fries and a milkshake, I’m just being honest! But I’m trying. I’m not perfect, but I’m making an effort. And that’s what counts, right? So yeah, that’s my journey to finding healthier takeout. If I can do it, you definitely can too!
