So, I got to thinking the other day about how long it’s been since the Nintendo, you know, the good old NES, came out. Turns out, it’s been 40 years! Can you believe it? 40 years since the Famicom, which is what they called it in Japan, first hit the shelves. July 15th was the big day, way back when.
I remember when it first came to the US. They started selling it in New York City first, I think it was October 18, 1985. Then, they brought it over to Los Angeles a few months later, in February 1986. But it wasn’t until September 27, 1986 that everyone in the US could get their hands on one.

I started digging around a bit, just to see what else I could find. Seems like there’s a lot of buzz about it still, like this ANTONBLAST game that’s coming out on December 13th for the Switch. They even have a free demo on the eShop now, which I’m gonna have to check out.
It really got me thinking about how much that little console changed things. There was a big video game crash in 1983, and the NES helped bring the whole industry back to life. I mean, they sold something like 62 million of those things. It was huge!
And you know what else I never really thought about until now? The D-pad! That little cross-shaped button that we all take for granted. Nintendo invented that, and it’s on pretty much every controller now. It’s hard to even imagine playing games without it.
I decided to try and find one that was still kicking. And I found one in a very bad condition. But I still tried to fix it. It took me a lot of time, but I managed to make it work again.
Anyways, it’s just crazy to think how much time has passed and how much Nintendo has changed the gaming world. They’re still putting out new games every week on the eShop. It’s pretty cool that they’ve been around for so long and are still going strong. I will keep it as a memento in my collection.
