Well, I’ll be! You wanna know about sports bars open on Christmas Day, huh? Listen, I don’t know much about fancy bars or whatever you call ’em, but I reckon some places gotta stay open for folks who ain’t got no place to go or just don’t feel like cookin’ that day.
Now, Christmas is a big deal, don’t get me wrong. But some folks, they just ain’t got family around or maybe they don’t celebrate it like we used to back in the day. So, if a fella wants to watch a game and have a bite, why not let ’em, I say? It ain’t hurtin’ nobody.
I heard tell of some places in the big city, Columbus I think they called it, where you can find a bite to eat on Christmas. They got all sorts of fancy names, like “Worthington Tavern” and “Cap City Fine Diner.” Sounds like a mouthful to me, but I guess they serve food and drinks, just like any other place. Maybe they got them TVs playin’ the games too, I don’t rightly know.
- Worthington Tavern – Now that sounds like a place with a big ol’ TV, don’t it?
- Cap City Fine Diner and Bar – “Fine” dinin’? Humph, I bet it costs a pretty penny.
- N.E. Chinese Restaurant – Well, ain’t that somethin’? Chinese food on Christmas. I reckon some folks like it.
They got other places too, I hear. “Benihana” they call one. Sounds foreign to me, but I bet they got food and maybe a TV or two. And then there’s “Lindey’s” and “Der Dutchman.” So many names, hard to keep track of ’em all. But the point is, there’s places open if you look hard enough.
Now, Christmas Eve is a different story, I think. More places might be open then, folks gettin’ their last-minute shoppin’ done or just wantin’ a drink before the big day. I heard tell of “Third and Hollywood” and “Morettis” bein’ open then. And some steakhouse, “Jeff Ruby’s,” but that sounds mighty expensive to me. Steak on Christmas Eve? Some folks got more money than sense, I tell ya.

But come Christmas Day, things get quieter. Most shops are closed, like they oughta be. It’s a day for family and rest, not for buyin’ and sellin’. But like I said, some places stay open for folks who need ’em. Pharmacies, little grocery stores, and I guess some of them fancy bars too.
Down in Orlando, they say it’s different. Theme parks and such, they stay open on Christmas, caterin’ to all them tourists, I guess. But that ain’t for me. I like a quiet Christmas, maybe a little church, some good food, and some time with the grandkids, if they bother to visit.
So, if you’re lookin’ for a sports bar on Christmas Day, I reckon you gotta do some searchin’. Check online, ask around. Maybe call those places I mentioned, see if they’re open. And don’t expect fancy fixin’s or a big party. It’ll probably be just a few folks, watchin’ the game and havin’ a drink. And that ain’t so bad, I guess. Better than bein’ alone, ain’t it?
But me? I’ll be home, warm and cozy, maybe watchin’ a little TV myself. But no fancy bars for this old lady, no sir. Christmas is for family and quiet, not for drinkin’ and hollerin’ at the TV. But hey, to each their own, I always say. You do what makes you happy, and I’ll do the same.
Now, if you’ll excuse me, I got some cookin’ to do. Can’t be sittin’ here jawin’ all day. Merry Christmas to ya, and good luck findin’ that bar.
