Yesterday, I decided to spice things up a bit. I mean, regular dinners are fine, but why not add a little extra something? So, I thought, “Dinner with entertainment? Let’s do it!”
The Prep Work
First, I needed a plan. I brainstormed some ideas. A movie? Too basic. Karaoke? Maybe, but I wasn’t sure if my neighbors would appreciate my singing. Then it hit me – a murder mystery dinner!

- I found a free murder mystery game online. It had everything – character descriptions, clues, the whole shebang.
- I invited a few friends. The key is to find friends is the important.
- I planned the menu. I kept it simple: pasta, salad, and garlic bread. Gotta have those carbs for energy to solve a murder, right?
Setting the Stage
Before everyone arrived, I set the mood. I dimmed the lights, put on some jazzy background music, and even printed out fake “police reports” to scatter around.
I also assigned everyone their characters ahead of time. My friend, Mark, got to be the flamboyant artist, and Sarah was the suspicious widow. Everyone embraced their roles, which made it even more fun.
The Main Event
As we ate dinner, we stayed in character. People were throwing accusations, sharing secrets, and generally hamming it up. There were a few red herrings, some dramatic reveals, and a lot of laughter.
It was a bit chaotic at times, trying to keep track of all the clues and who said what, but that was part of the fun. We weren’t exactly Sherlock Holmes, but we were having a blast.
The Big Reveal
Finally, after much deliberation (and a few more glasses of wine), we made our guesses. Turns out, the butler did it! (Just kidding, it wasn’t the butler, it was the seemingly innocent gardener.)

Honestly, it didn’t really matter who the “murderer” was. The whole point was to have a fun, interactive dinner with friends, and we definitely achieved that.
Would I do it again? Absolutely! It was a bit of work to set up, but totally worth it. It was a memorable night, and a great way to break out of the usual dinner routine.
