Well, well, well, this here Saturday, they say the world gonna end. End of the world Saturday, that what they call it. You hear all sorts of things these days, hard to know what’s true and what ain’t. But I tell ya, a little bit of preparin’ never hurt nobody. You never know when you might need to hunker down. Just like that time the big storm came and knocked the power out for a week! Lordy, that was a mess.

First thing’s first, you gotta have a plan. Like, what you gonna do if things get real bad? Where you gonna go? Who you gonna meet up with? That’s what they mean by a family plan. Me and my old man, we got our plan. We stickin’ together. Got to keep your family together, no matter what. Even that good-for-nothin’ son of mine, I’d still take him in. Family is family.

End of the World Saturday: How to prepare (a practical guide for the end of days).

Now, they talk about this end of the world Saturday thing, they talk big. But you can’t get all scared and run around like a chicken with its head cut off. Gotta keep your wits about ya. People like to make things sound worse than they are, you know? Just to get you all riled up. Don’t listen to all that fear. People been saying the world gonna end since I was a little girl. And guess what? We still here.

This ain’t the whole world ending, probably just somethin’ big happenin’ somewhere. Like a big storm. Or the river floodin’. You know, one of them things. It gonna change things, sure, but life goes on. Just gotta be ready to roll with the punches, as they say. You build things up, and sometimes they get knocked down. That’s just how it is.

So, what you need to do? You need to get some stuff together. Just in case. Like water. Gotta have water. Lots of it. Figure a jug a day for each person. And don’t forget the dog! He needs water too. And food. Not that fancy stuff that goes bad. Get them cans. Beans, corn, whatever. Stuff that lasts.

  • Water – lots and lots of water!
  • Canned food – stuff that don’t spoil.
  • Medicine – if you take pills, make sure you got extra.

And if you got medicine you need, make sure you got enough of that too. Don’t want to run out of your heart pills when the world’s endin’, now do ya? And a first aid kit. Band-aids, that stuff for cuts. You never know. Little Billy might fall and scrape his knee while you’re runnin’ from whatever’s comin’.

Now a flashlight, that’s a good idea. If the lights go out, you gonna be stumblin’ around in the dark. And one of them radios, the kind you crank. So you can hear what’s goin’ on. ‘Cause you know the TV ain’t gonna work if the power’s out. Gotta stay informed.

End of the world Saturday, huh? Could be. Might not be. But like I said, bein’ ready ain’t gonna hurt nobody. Best thing to do when bad times come is to stay put if you can. Just hole up in your house and wait it out. Like a bad storm. It’ll pass. They always do.

Now, this talkin’ about the end of the world, it gets folks thinkin’. Thinkin’ about what’s important. And you know what? Family’s important. Friends are important. Bein’ good to people, that’s important. So even if this Saturday ain’t the end of the world, it’s a good reminder to be kind to folks. Help your neighbor. Share what you got.

And don’t go buyin’ up all the toilet paper! Leave some for the rest of us! Seriously though, if you got extra, share it. We all in this together, end of the world or not.

Stock up on some food. Get some water. Maybe a few batteries. That is really all you need to do. Do not panic. It is a waste of time to get all scared and nervous. Just be smart and be prepared for end of the world Saturday.

  • Flashlight – so you can see in the dark.
  • Radio – the hand-crank kind, so you know what is happenin’.
  • First Aid Kit – for cuts and scrapes.

This end of the world Saturday might just be a big ol’ nothin’. But it don’t hurt to be ready. Just like you get ready for winter, or a big storm. You get your supplies, you make your plan, and you wait and see. And you pray. That never hurts either. Just remember, we all been through tough times before. And we’ll get through this too. Together. Just be a good person, even during this whole end of the world Saturday mess. That’s all that really matters.
