Okay, so here’s the deal. I was bored last weekend, completely uninspired, staring at my backyard thinking, “Man, this place needs some life!” Then I had this crazy idea – political yard signs! Not the serious, preachy kind, but the funny ones. The kind that make people chuckle, maybe even think a little, but mostly chuckle.
First thing I did was hit the internet. I Googled “funny political yard signs” and got flooded with images. Some were okay, some were lame, but a few sparked some real inspiration. I saved a bunch of screenshots, mostly for the witty slogans and the overall vibe.

Next up, brainstorming. I grabbed a notepad and started scribbling down every ridiculous political thought that popped into my head. I tried to think about current events, local issues, anything that could be twisted into a joke. It was messy, a lot of it was terrible, but after an hour or so, I had a decent list of potential slogans.
Then came the fun part: designing the signs. I didn’t want to spend a fortune, so I decided to DIY. I bought a stack of those plain white corrugated plastic yard signs from a local hardware store. They were cheap and perfect for experimenting.
For the design, I kept it super simple. I’m no artist, so I stuck with bold fonts and basic colors. I used some free online design tools to create the layouts, playing around with different fonts and arrangements until I found something that looked clean and readable. I ended up with three different designs.
Getting the designs onto the signs was the trickiest part. I considered printing out stencils, but that seemed like too much work. Instead, I went old-school. I printed out the designs on regular paper, taped them to the signs, and then traced the outlines with a Sharpie. Then I just filled in the letters with colored spray paint. It wasn’t perfect, but it was good enough for a laugh.
Here are the slogans I ended up using:
- “I’m With Stupid” (with an arrow pointing to the neighbor’s yard)
- “Make America Rake Again” (with a picture of a leaf blower)
- “Free Hugs. Vaccinated.”
Once the paint was dry, I stuck the signs in my yard. I spaced them out a bit, so they wouldn’t be overwhelming. I even put one in my neighbor’s yard (with his permission, of course!).
The reaction was hilarious. People slowed down as they drove by, some even stopped to take pictures. I saw a few folks pointing and laughing. One guy even gave me a thumbs up. It was exactly the kind of lighthearted fun I was hoping for.

Of course, not everyone got the humor. One grumpy old lady gave me a dirty look and muttered something about “disrespecting the flag.” But hey, you can’t please everyone.
Overall, it was a fun and silly project. It didn’t solve any world problems, but it did bring a little bit of laughter to my neighborhood. And that’s a good thing, right?
Lessons Learned:
- Keep the designs simple.
- Use bold fonts for readability.
- Don’t be afraid to be a little bit controversial (but stay away from anything truly offensive).
- Have fun with it!
I might even make some new signs for the next election. Who knows, maybe I’ll start a trend!
