Okay, so I’ve been tinkering around with this “beattie tech restaurant” idea, and let me tell you, it’s been a bit of a rollercoaster. I started with this vague concept, right? Like, a tech-infused restaurant, but what does that even mean?
First, I brainstormed a bunch of random stuff. Automated ordering? Robot waiters? Holographic menus? It all sounded cool, but also kinda… overwhelming. I needed to narrow it down.

My Initial (Slightly Chaotic) Ideas:
- Robot chefs – because who wouldn’t want a perfectly cooked steak every time?
- Tables that project interactive games – keep the kids (and adults, let’s be honest) entertained.
- A system that remembers your order history and dietary restrictions.
- Some kind of fancy lighting setup controlled by an AI.
So, I picked the personalized ordering system as a starting point. It seemed like the most achievable, and frankly, the least likely to result in a robot uprising.
I spent a good few days just messing around with different restaurant software, most are not open source, so it’s tough to know how it works, I just can feel it. I’m not a coder, so this was all very new to me. I watched a ton of YouTube tutorials and almost threw my laptop out the window a couple of times.
Eventually, I stumbled upon this online table reservation system and ordering menu, It wasn’t perfect, but it was a good starting point. I started playing around, adding fake menu items, and testing different dietary filters. I even made my family pretend to be customers and give me feedback.
Then, I focused my attention to make some mock-up that how does the user interface look like, I used some online tools to design a basic layout. You know, big buttons, clear text, nothing too fancy. I’m all about keeping it simple.
After that, I spent some time thinking about the database part. That’s the stuff that would store all the customer info, order history, and preferences, and I don’t know how to do it at all!
It’s definitely a work in progress. I’m not going to be opening a real tech restaurant anytime soon, but it’s been a fun (and sometimes frustrating) learning experience. I’m slowly figuring things out, one step at a time. And hey, maybe one day I’ll have a robot waiter bring me a beer. A guy can dream, right?
