Okay, so I wanted to get more into politics, but like, not in a boring way. I figured podcasts would be perfect – I can listen while I’m doing other stuff, you know?
Finding the Podcasts
First, I just did a simple search for “top political podcasts.” Lots of lists popped up, which was a little overwhelming, to be honest.

I started by skimming through a few of the articles. I wanted a good mix – some that were more newsy, some with deeper analysis, and maybe a couple with different political viewpoints. I didn’t want to just hear the same opinions over and over.
Making My Shortlist
I jotted down the names of podcasts that kept coming up, or that had descriptions that sounded interesting. Stuff like:
- If a podcast seemed to focus on a specific niche,I made a note, to see.
- I looked podcasts focused on interviews, or more on debates.
- I also checked if they had guest speakers.
Testing Them Out
This was the most time-consuming part. I downloaded a few episodes of each podcast on my list. Some I could tell right away weren’t for me – too dry, too much shouting, whatever. Others grabbed my attention pretty quickly.
I tried to listen to at least one full episode of each, but sometimes I’d give it 10-15 minutes and just know it wasn’t a good fit. No big deal, just moved on to the next one.
My Top Picks
After all that listening, I’ve got a solid list of political podcasts I’m actually enjoying! I ended up liking a mix of styles, from more conversational, interview, debate, to more focused, etc. And it is good for me.
It took a bit of trial and error, but it was definitely worth it. Now I feel like I’m learning something new and staying informed, without having to stare at a screen all day. Win-win!
