Okay, so I’ve been seeing a lot of buzz lately about auto parts stores closing down, and it got me thinking. I actually had a bit of a run-in with this whole situation recently, so I figured I’d share my experience.
It all started a few weeks back. My trusty old pickup started making this awful grinding noise, and I knew right away it was probably the wheel bearings. No biggie, I’ve replaced those before. So, I started by jacking up the truck and pulling off the wheel to get a better look.

Yep, definitely the bearings. They were shot. So, I grabbed my phone and started looking up the closest auto parts store. I usually go to this one place down the street, but I figured I’d check to see if any other stores had a better deal.
That’s when I noticed something weird. A bunch of the stores I used to go to were listed as “permanently closed.” I’m talking like, three or four places that I’ve bought parts from in the past, all gone.
I started to dig a little deeper.
- First, I started looking at local listings like googlemap.
- Then, I checked some online forums where people talk about car stuff. Sure enough, other folks were saying the same thing – their local auto parts stores were shutting down.
- I read some artical saying because online shopping.
It’s a bummer, really. I like being able to just run down to the store, grab what I need, and get the job done. Now, it seems like I’m going to have to order everything online and wait for it to ship. I guess on the positive side I could find good deal at online, but it mean that I need to wait longer to get my part.
Anyway, that’s my little story about the auto parts stores closing down. It’s definitely something to keep in mind if you’re a DIY car person like me. Times are changing, I guess.
