So, I got wind of this whole MCG Health data breach thing, and I thought I’d share my experience with it. It’s a bit of a mess, honestly.
It all kicked off around March 25, 2022, or so they say. I started digging around to see what was what, and apparently, if your personal info got caught up in this MCG Health data breach mess, you could be looking at a whopping… wait for it… $10. Yeah, not exactly hitting the jackpot, right?

Turns out, MCG Health, this software company based in Seattle, is forking over $8.8 million to settle this big class-action lawsuit. The whole deal is that they supposedly didn’t do enough to stop a data breach back in March 2022. I read about it on some website, GovInfoSecurity, I think it was. They said it was some kind of hacking thing that happened in 2020, but affected people much later.
What did I do?
First, I went through all my emails and records to see if I had any dealings with MCG Health. Found a few things, nothing major, but enough to make me a little nervous. Then, I looked up this law firm, Murphy Law Firm, that was talking about the settlement. Seemed legit, so I kept an eye on their updates.
My take on it?
- This whole situation is a bit of a joke. Ten bucks for your personal information possibly being compromised? That’s like a slap in the face.
- It’s frustrating. You trust these companies with your data, and then something like this happens. It makes you wonder who you can actually trust online these days.
- I’m not holding my breath. Even though they’re paying out $8.8 million, it’s probably going to be split between so many people that we’ll each end up with peanuts.
I just filled out some forms online to be part of the settlement, and not gonna lie, I’m not expecting much. But hey, I figured it’s better than nothing, and it’s the principle of the thing, you know?
Anyway, that’s my story about this MCG Health mess. It’s a bit of a downer, but I thought it was worth sharing. If you’re in the same boat, maybe look into it. Who knows, maybe that $10 will buy you a nice cup of coffee someday. Or not.
Stay safe out there, folks. And maybe think twice about who you’re giving your personal info to. It’s a wild world out there on the internet.
