Okay, so I decided to dive into finding businesses for sale in Washington State. It’s something I’ve been thinking about for a while, and I figured, why not document the whole messy process?
Step 1: The Initial Search (and Feeling Overwhelmed)
First, I just started Googling. You know, “businesses for sale Washington State,” “buy a business WA,” that kind of thing. I immediately got slammed with tons of websites. It was information overload!

Step 2: Refining the Search (and Getting a Little Smarter)
I quickly learned to add keywords and specify some key * niche word and location word can make the result I searched more efficiency.
Step 3: Narrowing Down the Options (and Starting to Dream)
After a few days of sifting, I started to see some potential. I focused on a few industries, mainly things I at least somewhat understood. It’s tempting to jump at something that sounds cool, but I knew I needed to be realistic.
Step 4: Reaching Out (and Feeling Nervous)
This was the scary part. I started contacting some of the brokers or sellers through the websites I’d found. Mostly just emails at first, asking for more information. Honestly, I felt pretty awkward, like I was pretending to be a “serious buyer” when I was still figuring things out.
Step 5: Getting Information (and Realizing It’s Complicated)
The responses I got back were a mixed bag. Some were super helpful, providing detailed financials and answering my questions. Others were vague and made me wonder if they were hiding something. This is where I realized that buying a business is WAY more complicated than buying, like, a used car.
Step 6: Keeping Track (and Trying to Stay Organized)
- Spreadsheet is my best friend.
- Created columns that I need to keep in mind.
- Make notes of every conversation I have.
I use thoes tips to make my searching process easier.

Step 7: Still Going… (and Hoping for the Best)
So, that’s where I’m at right now. Still searching, still learning, still hoping to find the right opportunity. It’s a long process, and I’m sure there will be more ups and downs, but I’m committed to seeing it through. I’ll keep updating this as I go, so wish me luck!
