Okay, so I’ve been trying to get better at crossword puzzles lately, and I’ve noticed a ton of clues are about “entertainment.” It’s such a broad category, you know? So, I decided to do a little digging and make my own cheat sheet. I thought I would share it with you all.
Start with the Basics, Brainstorming…
First, I just started brainstorming. I grabbed a piece of paper and jotted down every single word I could think of that was related to entertainment. Movies, TV shows, music, theater, books… you name it, I wrote it down.

It’s messy, It was all over the place. But It helped to see everyting.
Get into the detail, Classfiy…
Next, I tried to classify those words. I made some lists:
- Movies: film, cinema, flick, show, picture, premiere…
- Television: series, episode, sitcom, drama, broadcast, network…
- Music: song, tune, concert, album, artist, genre, opera…
- Theater: play, drama, stage, actor, actress, performance…
- Books: novel, story, literature, author, chapter, fiction…
Find some special words
Then, I looked for words that could have multiple meanings or be used in different ways. For example, “play” could be a theater production, or it could mean to engage in an activity for enjoyment. “Show” could be a TV show, a movie, or even a concert.
Practice make better
After that, I went through some old crossword puzzles and circled all the entertainment-related clues. I tried to figure out the answers using my notes, and if I got stuck, I added any new words to my lists.
Finally… It works
It’s a work in progress, obviously, but it’s already helped me a lot. I’m still not a crossword master or anything, but I’m definitely getting better. I’m getting familar with those words. At least now I don’t feel totally lost when I see “entertainment” in a clue!
