Today, I will share something about how I built a pier. It was quite a journey, let me tell you.
Preparation
First things first, I needed to figure out what I was getting myself into. So, I started by doing some research. I read a bunch of stuff online and watched some videos about building piers. It seemed simple enough at first, but boy, was I wrong!
Gathering Materials
After that, I made a list of all the stuff I needed. I headed to the local hardware store. I grabbed a bunch of wood, some heavy-duty screws, concrete mix, and a few other bits and pieces. It was a bit of a workout just loading everything into my truck.
Building the Frame
Next up, I started on the frame. This was the trickiest part, to be honest. I measured and cut the wood, making sure everything was level and square. I remember thinking, “Man, I should have paid more attention in those high school woodwork classes!” Anyway, I screwed the pieces together, slowly but surely the frame started to take shape. It wasn’t pretty, but it was sturdy.
Setting the Posts
Then came the time to set the posts in the water. This was a real pain. I dug holes at the bottom, which was no easy feat. Then, with the help of a couple of buddies, we lowered the posts into the holes and poured concrete around them. We had to hold them steady until the concrete started to set. It was a long, tiring day.
Adding the Deck
Once the concrete was dry, I moved on to the deck. I laid out the planks and screwed them into the frame. It felt great to see it finally starting to look like an actual pier. I kept checking to make sure it was all level, didn’t want anyone taking an unexpected dip in the water!
Finishing Touches
Finally, I added some finishing touches. I sanded down any rough edges and put a coat of sealant on the wood to protect it from the weather. I even added a little bench at the end so I could sit and enjoy the view.
The End Result
It took a while, and there were definitely some frustrating moments, but in the end, I had a solid, functional pier. It wasn’t perfect, but I built it with my own two hands, and that’s something I’m pretty proud of. Now, I can just chill out on it, maybe do a little fishing. It’s the perfect spot to relax.
