So, I’ve been thinking about buying a business for a while now, and I finally decided to take the plunge and look into what’s available in Washington. I mean, I’ve always wanted to be my own boss, you know? And Washington seems like a cool place to do it.
First, I started with just a general search online to see what kinds of businesses were for sale. I just typed in “business for sale in Washington” and a ton of stuff popped up. It was kind of overwhelming, to be honest. There were restaurants, retail stores, online businesses, you name it.

Narrowing it Down
- I realized pretty quickly that I needed to narrow it down.
- I thought about what I’m actually interested in and what I’m good at.
- I’m not a foodie, so a restaurant was out.
- Retail seemed like a lot of work with inventory and stuff.
I decided to focus on businesses that were more service-based, maybe something I could even run from home. After looking for a while, I found a couple of interesting options. One was a small marketing agency, and the other was a cleaning service. Both seemed doable, and I figured I could learn the ropes as I went along.
I reached out to the sellers through a business broker that was listed on one of the websites and got some more information. The marketing agency was a bit more expensive than I was hoping for, but the cleaning service seemed like a good deal. The seller sent over some basic financials, and it looked like it was making a decent profit. This felt pretty good to me, but I decided to ask my friends for advice.
Next, I met with the seller of the cleaning service in person. We chatted for a while, and he seemed like a nice guy. He explained why he was selling and walked me through the day-to-day operations. It seemed like something I could handle, but honestly, I was still a bit nervous.
I spent the next few weeks doing more research. I talked to some other people who owned cleaning businesses to get their perspective, and I read a bunch of articles online about how to run a successful cleaning business. I even made a basic business plan to see if the numbers made sense.
Making a Decision
Finally, after a lot of back and forth, I decided to make an offer on the cleaning service. It wasn’t easy, but I figured it was worth the risk. We negotiated a bit on the price, and eventually, we came to an agreement. I signed the papers, and just like that, I was a business owner!.
It’s been a few months now, and I’m still learning the ropes. It’s definitely been a lot of work, but it’s also been really rewarding. I’m my own boss, I set my own hours, and I’m finally doing something I enjoy. There are still challenges, of course, but I’m excited to see where this new adventure takes me. I will keep you guys posted.
