Okay, so I’ve been messing around with this Coleman Dark Room Technology stuff, and I gotta say, it’s pretty interesting. Basically, I wanted to see if this thing really works like they say it does, blocking out the sunlight and all that. So, I grabbed one of these Coleman Skydome tents that has it built-in.
First thing I did was set up the tent. It wasn’t too bad, honestly. They claim it takes like five minutes to set up. Maybe that’s true for a pro, but it took me a little longer. It had this screened porch thing, which seemed cool for chilling without bugs attacking me. This is the key step, the tent was ready for testing.

My Experiment Setup
- Set Up Time: Afternoon, bright and sunny.
- Location: My backyard.
- Test: See how much light it actually blocked.
I crawled inside, zipped it up, and wow, it was definitely darker than a regular tent. Not pitch black, mind you, but way darker. It felt like a cloudy day in there, even though the sun was blazing outside. I could still see a little, but it was way dimmer. To make it even darker, I made sure the rainfly was on tight.
Now for the real test. I laid down like I was going to take a nap. This was way more comfortable than a normal tent during the day. I even dozed off for a bit, which never happens to me in a tent during the daytime. Normally, I’d be up with the sun, sweating like crazy. But this thing actually kept it pretty cool inside. I stayed inside for several hours, the tent was totally dark. This was great for me who want to sleep longer in the morning.
I also noticed that it seemed to keep the temperature down a bit, which is a huge plus in the summer. It wasn’t like air conditioning, but it was noticeably cooler than outside. It was like a little dark cave in there. I could see this being awesome for camping in the summer, especially if you’re not a morning person.
So, after spending some time in this thing, I’m pretty convinced. This Coleman Dark Room Technology actually does what it says. It blocks out a ton of sunlight and keeps the inside of the tent cooler. I’m thinking this is going to be a game-changer for my camping trips. No more waking up at the crack of dawn, drenched in sweat. I might actually get some decent sleep out in the wilderness now! I think this is gonna make camping way more enjoyable, especially when it’s super sunny out.
Now, I know some folks online were saying it’s not completely blackout, and they’re right. But it’s a heck of a lot darker than a regular tent. And for me, that’s good enough. I’m not expecting miracles, just a little more shut-eye in the morning and a cooler place to hang out during the day. And this thing delivers on that. Totally a win in my book. I think I’ll be using this tent a lot more in the future. Sleeping in just got a whole lot easier!
