Okay, here’s my sharing about Coupeville Sports Blog.
So, I decided to start this thing, the Coupeville Sports Blog. It’s been a while now, and let me tell you, it’s been a journey. Nine years, to be precise. Nine years of documenting the ups and downs of our local sports scene. I started it because, well, I love sports, and I love Coupeville. It was as simple as that. I figured, why not combine those two passions and share them with the world, or at least our little corner of it?

Getting Started
I dove headfirst into the world of blogging. It’s not as easy as some people might think. I set up the blog, started attending games, taking notes, and snapping pictures. I was writing about the Wolves football team in their early season games, the ups and downs of the soccer matches, and even Makana Stone’s amazing basketball performances overseas. I mean, 14 points and 18 rebounds? That’s insane! I was there, recording everything I saw.
Tracking Stats
I’m a bit of a numbers guy, so I started tracking stats, which was tough. You know how it is with high school sports, not everything’s readily available. But I pulled together what I could, trying to give folks a better look at how our teams were doing. I kept track of football game stats, trying to present them in a way that made sense. It was a lot of digging, but worth it.
Building a Community
Over the years, it’s become more than just reporting scores. I’ve tried to build a community around this blog, to make it a place where people can come together and celebrate our local athletes. We’ve had some great moments, like that 2-1 win for the Wolves against La Conner. That was a nail-biter, and it kept their playoff dreams alive. I was happy to share those moments with everyone who wanted to read about them.
Dealing with Critics
Of course, not everyone’s a fan. I’ve had my share of critics. There’s this one guy, David Freed, who’s always got something negative to say. He says he’s too busy to read my articles but still criticizes them. It’s funny. But I don’t let it get to me. I’m here for the love of the game and the community.
Reflecting on the Journey
As we approach the 10-year mark, it’s wild to think about how far this little blog has come. We’re at 9,359 stories and almost 2 million page views. It’s crazy, right? I want to address a few things people get wrong about the blog. It’s not just about me. It’s about the athletes, the coaches, the parents, and everyone who makes Coupeville sports what it is. I hope that what I’m doing is giving back to a community that’s given me so much.
So, that’s my story about Coupeville Sports Blog. It’s been a wild ride, and I wouldn’t trade it for anything. I’m excited to see what the future holds, and I hope you’ll all stick around to see it with me.
