So, I was on a mission, a quest for the best sports card shops in Richmond, VA. I’m a huge fan, and collecting cards is like my thing, you know? So, I grabbed my phone and started hitting up Yelp and a few other sites that popped up in my search results. I made a list of potential spots, focusing on the ones that had good reviews and seemed to have a decent selection.

First on my list was this place called “The Card Guys.” It showed up on a lot of the lists and sounded like the biggest in town. I mapped out my route and decided to make a day of it. I figured I’d hit up a few different shops, compare what they had, and maybe snag some cool finds.
I hopped in my car and drove over to The Card Guys. I walked in, and it was pretty packed. People were browsing, chatting, and checking out the cards. I started browsing, looking through the display cases and boxes. They had a pretty good selection, but nothing really jumped out at me. I chatted with one of the guys working there, and he was pretty chill.
After that, I headed to another shop called “The Card Cellar.” It was a smaller place, but it had a more curated feel. I spent some time looking around, and I did find a few cards I liked, but again nothing special. I saw a sign saying “Jersey’s Cards Comics” near by, and gave it a shot, but there were not any sports cards at all.
Then, I tried a shop called “Big Tiger Games Sport Cards,” It was not as big as The Card Guys, but more than The Card Cellar, I did find one card I liked. I bought it, and felt pretty good.

I made my way to “Collector’s Heaven” next. It was a bit further out, but I figured it was worth checking out. When I got there, it was a total bust. The place was more focused on comic books than sports cards. Bummer.
I decided to give one more place a shot. “Lakeside Sports Cards Collectibles” was my last stop, but they were all out of cards. I thought I had a few other places in the area but didn’t realize they were not sports card shops. I learned a valuable lesson: Always check the store’s specialty before making the trip. I found a few mentions of “West End Sports Cards” and “Three Point RVA” online, but I didn’t get a chance to visit them this time around. I also saw some stuff about looking up cards on some website, but I like going to the shops in person. Makes it more fun, you know?
Here’s my final list of the places I hit up or heard about, with some quick thoughts:
- The Card Guys: Big shop, lots of cards, but nothing special for me.
- The Card Cellar: Smaller, more curated, had a few good ones, but not what I was looking for.
- Jersey’s Cards Comics: Big shop but doesn’t sell sports cards.
- Big Tiger Games Sport Cards: Found one card, not bad.
- Collector’s Heaven: Not a sports card shop, mostly comic books.
- Lakeside Sports Cards Collectibles: Were all out of cards.
- West End Sports Cards: Didn’t make it there, maybe next time.
- Three Point RVA: Also didn’t visit, but it’s on my list for the future.

Overall, it was a fun day, even though I didn’t find any amazing cards. It’s always cool to check out different shops and see what they have. I’ll definitely be back on the hunt soon, and maybe I’ll hit up those other spots I missed. Collecting is a journey, right? It’s not just about getting the cards, it’s about the experience, the thrill of the hunt, and meeting other collectors. I’ll keep you guys posted on my next adventure!
