Okay, so I’ve been wondering about this for a while: is Lane Furniture still in business? I remember their stuff from back in the day, seemed like everyone had a Lane cedar chest or recliner. So, I got curious and did some digging.
First, I just did a simple search for “Lane Furniture.” Seemed pretty obvious, right? Came across a whole bunch of stuff, but it was kinda confusing. Some websites were selling what looked like vintage Lane pieces, others were just talking about the history of the company. Nothing that clearly answered my simple question.

Then I tried searching for “Is Lane Furniture still around?” and that’s where things got a little more interesting. I found out that Lane wasn’t actually an independent company anymore. Turns out, a company called United Furniture Industries bought them out. I think it was back in 2017. This United Furniture Industries, from what I gathered, is a pretty big player in the furniture world.
But then things got even weirder! This United Furniture seemed to be doing some dealings with another company called Heritage Home Group which I guess used to be called something else, Furniture Brands International. They were based in North Carolina and owned a bunch of brands like Broyhill and Thomasville. It all seemed pretty tangled up, like who owns who and what’s going on.
After that, I tried to look up more about what happened after the whole United Furniture buyout thing. Seemed like that was big news around November 2017, but it was hard to find what happened since then. Did they keep making Lane furniture? Was it the same quality? Lots of unanswered questions.
Finally, I stumbled upon some recent news. It’s all a bit of a mess, to be honest. Apparently, United Furniture Industries suddenly shut down in November 2022! Like, out of the blue, told everyone they were out of a job. Not a good situation at all.
So, after all this digging, here’s what I figured out. Yes, technically, Lane Furniture as a brand is still around because someone else owns it. However, after the whole mess with United Furniture Industries suddenly shutting down, who knows what the future holds? They were the ones actually making the furniture, after all.
- Lane Furniture was bought by United Furniture Industries.
- United Furniture Industries suddenly closed its doors in 2022.
- It is not clear what the future holds for Lane Furniture.
Wrap up:
It’s kind of a sad story, really. This classic American brand got passed around and now its future is totally uncertain. Maybe someone will pick up the pieces, but for now, it’s a bit of a mystery. I guess we’ll just have to wait and see.
