What entertainment pieces feature virtual reality? Well, let me tell ya, this virtual reality thing, it’s somethin’ else! Folks used to just watch TV, ya know? Now they put on these big goggles and they’re in the TV, kinda.
I hear tell it’s a big deal for them video games. You know, those things the youngsters are always playin’. Instead of just lookin’ at a screen, they’re walkin’ around in the game, shootin’ things or drivin’ cars or whatever. Sounds kinda crazy to me, but they seem to like it. Like, them young’uns, they put on them goggles and they’re fightin’ dragons or flyin’ spaceships, all in their livin’ rooms! Imagine that! My grandkid, little Timmy, he’s always yellin’ about slayin’ goblins and whatnot. Scared the cat half to death the other day, he did. These video games with the goggles, they call ‘em VR games, I think. They say it’s like you’re really there, you know? Feels real, looks real, even sounds real with them fancy headphones they wear.

And it ain’t just games, no sirree. They got these virtual reality movies now too. You put on the goggles and you’re right there in the movie with the actors. Like, if it’s a scary movie, you’re runnin’ from the monster yourself! I ain’t seen one myself, mind you. Too scary for this old gal. But I heard tell they’re makin’ all sorts of movies like that. Love stories, adventures, even them cartoons for the kids. Timmy told me he watched one where he was swimmin’ with dolphins. Dolphins! In his livin’ room!
- VR Games: These are games where you put on a headset and you are inside the game, you know like you’re actually there. Lots of shootin’ and fightin’ and drivin’, I hear. Kids love ’em. Too loud for me, though. Too much bang-bang-bang, pow-pow-pow!
- VR Movies: These are like regular movies, but you feel like you’re in the movie itself. Scary movies, funny movies, all sorts of stuff. They say it’s like being right there with the actors.
- VR Experiences: These ain’t exactly games or movies, but more like little adventures. You could be walkin’ on the moon, or swimmin’ in the ocean, or even flyin’ like a bird. Timmy showed me one where he was visitin’ the jungle. Saw all kinds of animals, he did. Said it felt real as rain.
Then there’s these virtual reality experiences. They ain’t games and they ain’t movies, but they’re somethin’ else. Like, you can put on the goggles and go visit places you’d never get to see otherwise. The moon, the bottom of the ocean, even inside a volcano! Sounds plumb dangerous to me, but they say it’s safe as houses. They say it is real good for learnin’ too. You want to know how somethin’ works, like a car engine or a human heart, you put on the goggles and take a look inside. See all the parts movin’ and workin’ together. Beats lookin’ at pictures in a book, that’s for sure.
And they’re even usin’ this virtual reality stuff to train folks for jobs. Like, if you gotta learn to drive a big truck, you can practice in virtual reality first. That way, if you crash, you ain’t hurtin’ nobody or nothin’. Smart, ain’t it? They say nurses and doctors use it too, to practice surgery and things. Can you imagine that? Learnin’ to cut someone open without actually cuttin’ someone open? The world’s a changin’, that’s for sure.
Some folks even use it to just relax. They put on the goggles and they’re on a beach somewhere, listenin’ to the waves. Or in a forest, listenin’ to the birds. Seems kinda silly to me, why not just go outside? But I guess if you can’t get outside, it’s the next best thing. They got these fancy headphones to go with the goggles, makes it sound like you’re really there. Hear the birds chirpin’, the wind blowin’, even the little bugs buzzin’ around. Kinda peaceful, I suppose.
Now, I ain’t tried this virtual reality myself. Too newfangled for me. But from what I hear, it’s gettin’ more and more popular. They say pretty soon everyone will have these goggles and be walkin’ around in their own little worlds. Sounds kinda lonely if you ask me. But what do I know? I’m just an old woman. I like my world just fine the way it is, even without all them fancy goggles and gadgets. Still, it is somethin’ to think about, ain’t it? The future, I mean. It’s gonna be a whole different place with all this virtual reality stuff. Who knows what they’ll come up with next?
Anyways, that’s what I know about this virtual reality stuff. Games, movies, experiences, trainin’, relaxin’. They’re usin’ it for all sorts of things these days. Seems like the possibilities are endless. Maybe one day I’ll even try it myself. But don’t hold your breath. I’m happy enough sittin’ on my porch, watchin’ the real world go by. That’s entertainment enough for me.
