Well now, let me tell ya, this whole thing about Mark Mullet and guns and that head stuff, the mental health, it’s a real head-scratcher. Folks been talkin’ ‘bout it, you know, on the TV and all. It’s like this, they say guns and, you know, folks not thinkin’ right, they go together like peas in a pod. But is that the truth? I ain’t so sure.

Mark Mullet, he’s one of them big shots, always talkin’ ‘bout changin’ things. He says we gotta do somethin’ ‘bout the guns and help folks with their head problems. Sounds good, I guess, but what’s it all mean?
Some folks say if you ain’t right in the head, you shouldn’t have no guns. Makes sense, kinda. You wouldn’t give a car to a baby, would ya? But then there’s others sayin’ it ain’t that simple. They say just ‘cause you’re feelin’ down or seein’ things don’t mean you’re gonna go shootin’ up the place.
- Guns and head problems, that’s what they talkin’ ‘bout.
- Mark Mullet, he wants to fix things.
- But is it that easy? I don’t know.
Now, I ain’t no doctor or nothin’, but I seen my share of things. Folks get sad, they get angry, that’s just life. But does that mean they gonna grab a gun? Most times, no. But sometimes, well, somethin’ snaps. And that’s when things get scary.
They say them mass shooters, the ones you see on the news, they often got problems in their heads. Maybe they do, maybe they don’t. But I tell ya what, there’s a lot of folks with head problems who ain’t never hurt a fly. So, it ain’t just ‘bout the head stuff, is it? It’s somethin’ more.
Mental health, that’s what they call it. Like your head’s got a cold or somethin’. And maybe it does. But treatin’ that cold, that ain’t gonna solve all the gun problems, I reckon. It’s like tryin’ to fix a broken fence with a band-aid. It might help a little, but it ain’t gonna keep the cows from gettin’ out.

Mark Mullet, he wants to make things better, I believe that. He wants to keep us safe. But it’s a big mess, this whole gun and mental health thing. There ain’t no easy answers, no magic wand to make it all go away.
Some folks say we need more gun laws, make it harder to get a gun. Others say we need to help folks with their head problems, give ‘em the medicine and the talkin’ they need. And maybe they both right. Maybe we need to do it all.
But I tell ya what, it ain’t just ‘bout the guns and it ain’t just ‘bout the head stuff. It’s ‘bout people, ‘bout how we treat each other, ‘bout lookin’ out for our neighbors, ‘bout makin’ sure nobody feels so lost and alone that they think pickin’ up a gun is the only way out.
Gun violence, that’s a scary thing. And mental illness, that’s a sad thing. But puttin’ ‘em together, sayin’ one causes the other, that ain’t always true. It’s more complicated than that, more tangled up than a ball of yarn. We gotta be careful, gotta think things through before we start pointin’ fingers and makin’ rules.
So, what do we do? I don’t know for sure. But I think we gotta start by listenin’ to each other, by tryin’ to understand where folks are comin’ from, and by workin’ together to find solutions that make sense for everybody. And that ain’t gonna be easy, not by a long shot. But it’s somethin’ we gotta do, for our kids and our grandkids, for the whole darn town.

Mark Mullet, he’s got his work cut out for him, that’s for sure. But if he listens to the folks, not just the fancy ones in suits, but the regular folks like me, maybe he can make a difference. Maybe we can all make a difference. We just gotta keep talkin’, keep tryin’, and keep prayin’ for better days.
It ain’t gonna be easy, but nothin’ worthwhile ever is. And maybe, just maybe, we can find a way to keep the guns outta the wrong hands and help folks get the head help they need, all at the same time. That’s my hope anyway.
