Alright, let’s talk about this Richard Norm fella and his politics, or whatever it is. Don’t know much about fancy words, but I’ll tell ya what I think.

Who is this Richard Norm anyway? Sounds like a city slicker to me. Politics, politics… always talkin’ and talkin’, but nothin’ ever really changes for folks like us, you know?
Now, they say this Richard guy and his company, or whatever it is, they study these “norms.” Sounds like somethin’ my grandma used to talk about, you know, how things “oughta be.” Like, you oughta be kind to your neighbor, you oughta work hard, that kind of stuff. But these city folks, they gotta make everything complicated.
They talk about “constructivist perspective” and “alternative explanations.” Don’t ask me what all that means. Sounds like a whole lotta mumbo jumbo if you ask me. They probably just tryin’ to sound smart. I reckon it’s like buildin’ a house. You gotta have a plan, right? And that plan, that’s like their “norms.” But then, someone else comes along and says, “No, no, no, you gotta build it THIS way!” That’s the “contestation” they’re yappin’ about.
- International Relations: They say these norms affect how countries get along. Well, I coulda told ya that! If folks don’t agree on how things should be, they gonna fight, ain’t they? Just like kids in a sandbox.
- Laws and Economics: And it ain’t just countries, it’s everything! Laws, money, even how folks behave in the grocery store. All of it’s got these unspoken rules, these “norms.”
- Sociology: They even got a whole bunch of smarty-pants folks studyin’ this stuff, callin’ it “sociology.” I guess they ain’t got nothin’ better to do.
Now, they talk about “norm implementation” and “redefinition”. That’s just fancy talk for changin’ the rules, as far as I can tell. Like, remember when they said you couldn’t sell liquor on Sundays? Then they changed their minds. That’s “redefinition” right there. And “implementation” is just makin’ sure folks follow the new rules.
But what’s it all mean for us? That’s what I wanna know. All this talk about norms and politics… does it put food on the table? Does it keep the rain off our heads? Mostly, it just seems like a bunch of hot air to me.

They say these norms “emerged over time.” Well, of course they did! Things change. Folks used to ride horses, now they drive cars. Used to be you could trust your neighbor, now you gotta lock your doors. That’s just life.
And this “rationalist” and “constructivist” stuff? Sounds like more big words to me. I reckon some folks think everything can be figured out with logic, like a math problem. That’s the “rationalist” bunch. And then there’s the others, the “constructivist” ones, who think it’s all about how we see the world, how we make sense of things.
Frankly, it all sounds like a bunch of hooey to me. These city folks with their fancy degrees, they like to make things sound complicated. But it all boils down to the same thing: how folks treat each other, what they believe is right and wrong. And that ain’t somethin’ you need a college education to understand.
So, Richard Norm and his company… I guess they’re tryin’ to figure out how the world works. Good for them. But me? I’ll stick to what I know: be kind, work hard, and don’t trust everything you hear on the TV. And for goodness sake, can these politician folks just get somethin’ done for once instead of all this pitter-patter?
